List: Ten things that I'm grateful for this Thanksgiving (& beyond).

It's crazy to think about how much has changed since my last dedication to appreciation post.  I mean, the year 2019 feels like centuries ago.  Back then, I wouldn't even consider listing my thanks for the world not ending or not having to quarantine anymore.  Yet, here I am seriously THANKFUL for these things.

While many things have changed, I'm thankful for the things that haven't.  Thanksgiving still means food, festivities, and family time.  More importantly, it's still a time to reflect and express appreciation.  In honor of the things that haven't changed, here's my latest list of gratefulness!

Ten things I'm grateful for this year.

1.  I'm thankful for my family.
While I may complain about the stresses of being a mom, wife, and head of household, please don't ever think that I don't realize how lucky I am.  The gratitude I have for being blessed with my family is beyond words.  I'm thankful for my hard working husband, my sassy daughter, and my sweet and sour little boy.  Life just wouldn't be life without them.

2.  I'm thankful for Thor and Loki.
As you know, Thor the Puppy of Thunder has passed.  While we're still grieving, I'm thankful that he came into our lives.  He taught my children how to love in a way that no one else ever could.  You're probably asking, who the heck is Loki?!  We are blessed to have a puppy enter our lives as soon as next week.  More to come, but Thor's little brother is going to have some big shoes to fill.

3.  I'm thankful for the lockdowns.
The mixed feelings I have on this are insane and make me feel like a straight up crazy person.  I'm thankful that the lockdowns happened.  I'm thankful that they're over.  I'm thankful that they kept us safe.  I'm thankful that gave us a new perspective on life.  But, mostly, I'm thankful they triggered a new life balance that bettered our lives in the long run.

4.  I'm thankful for StitchFix.
While I posted all about this here (link), I'll give a brief summary.  I'm super petite with a weird body type and am unable to find flattering clothes in the store.  StitchFix makes me feel good every day when I get dressed, and for that, I'm thankful.

5.  I'm thankful for our health.
All four of us are blessed to not be burdened with any life threatening or altering illnesses.  I go to sleep chanting "Please keep my family safe and healthy" every single night.  True story.  I know that this is a blessing and it's something that can change in an instant.  Growing up, my home was broken due to a chronic illness and I pray every night to not go through it again.

6.  I'm thankful for my camera.
A few years back, we invested in a fancy Canon camera because it was on an insane Black Friday sale.  Thinking we'd use it for family photos and to eliminate photographer fees, we made the purchase.  It now sits next to me every day at work in case a bird flies by my window.  It goes with us on vacation to record our favorite memories.  And, yes, it takes some fabulous holiday photos.  More important than any of that, it helped me develop a hobby.  I truly love taking photographs and snapping moments to look back on later.  I now get asked to take pictures of people and things as a favor to family and friends which makes me extra thankful for our spontaneous purchase.

7.  I'm thankful for living near a nature preserve.
Years ago I would have scoffed at being so close to nature.  I always did my best to stay away from bugs, trees, and all other natural things.  After the lockdowns, nature has become our escape and hiking through that nature preserve has become something all four of us look forward to.  For that, I'm grateful.

8.  I'm thankful for my hair.
We all have different reactions to severe stress.  For me, it's my hair.  All it takes is a few days of severe anxiety, and my hair falls out in chunks.  The past year has been beyond mentally challenging for me thanks to a medication phobia and discriminative mandates.  I lost so much hair, that you could see my scalp when pulled back.  Fast forward to now, and it's growing back nicely.  I'm thankful for the hair that stayed, the new hair growing in, and the conditions that relieved my stress!

9.  I'm thankful for the birds.
You didn't think I'd forget about them, did you?  I'm grateful for them gathering in our backyard bird sanctuary, for letting me find them while birding, and for posing for all those pictures that make me way too happy.

10.  I'm thankful for the stability in our lives.
Instead of listing our jobs, our income, and home separately, I decided to lump it all into one.  We are beyond lucky and privileged to have stable careers, steady financial income, and food on our tables every night.  Without our family and our health, we have nothing.  But without this, we wouldn't have our quality of life.  For that, I'm thankful.

What are you thankful for?

  1. I don't really feel like lockdowns are over as we cannot enter any cafes and concerts after 8pm if we are not vaccinated and the example in Austria and some other countries shows us that libfascism will try to force us all to take the vaccine otherwise we will be banned from all public forms of life, including shops, like in Austria where they just made it mandatory and people are rioting.
Very excited about Loki! Oooh, how does he look like?

    1. He's ADORABLE!! I'll have to send you a picture on Facebook.

  2. You have such a great list here. The love of family and good health are definitely top contenders on my list. I’ve struggled with health issues the past three years and it really has made me so much more aware of the parts of my body that don’t cause me problems! Living near parks is also a great blessing. Getting fresh air and communing with nature can only improve our health, too.

I’m grateful for finding you in blogland, along with a few others (like Theresa) over the last two years. You are so much fun and even though I’m old enough to be your mom, I’m grateful you like to hang out with me on social media! Lol! XO

  3. Ooh, I can not wait to see your new puppy!

I am also thankful for health. I am thankful for my weight gain. While some people hate extra poundage, I look at mine as a reminder that I'm currently healthy. I'm not praying every night that I live long enough to see Allison graduate like I've done so many years in the past. I've love these extra curves with all I've got.

I love Bijoux post. I am so thankful to all of my blog friends like you, her and Dezzy, and many others as well. I've contemplated walking away from the blog A LOT these past two years, but I'd miss you all so much if I just up and disappeared. I am so very busy this year and haven't been as consistent making the blog and social media rounds as I'd like, but I'll finally have a 2 month break come the first of the year and I am so looking forward to just having time to catch up with everyone then.

    1. OMG I saw the puppy, Loki is soooo cute! You will squeak when you see him :)

    2. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling healthier! I can't even imagine going to bed every night in fear like that. I'm also glad that you'll have a break. Although, if you're that busy it means that you're having successful so that's great!

I'll send you some Loki pictures on Facebook. He's so freaking cute that I can't take it!
