Life: A backyard petting zoo and pony rides birthday party!

It all started a few weeks ago.  The kiddies and I were doing our nightly walk, when we walked past one of our favorite homes.  It's the house at the end of the trail with all the sheep, goats, alpacas, and miniature horses.  While my kids stared in awe through the chain link fence like usual, I noticed that the homeowners were outside NOT like usual.  Feeling a little embarrassed, I started to round up the kids for the trek back home when the homeowner said "Hey kids, do you want to feed the goats?".  Forgetting all of the rules we learned about strangers, we ran into their backyard and fed the goats.  That's when the man started telling me about their birthday party business.  They bring their animals to your backyard for the best birthday ever!

I didn't think the kids were listening, but naturally they heard every word.  For the next two weeks they BEGGED me to have these goats come for baby boy's 3rd birthday.  Since these neighbors showed us such hospitality, I felt obligated to book the party.

...and I'm so glad that I did!!

Going into this sort of blind, I had no idea what to expect.  I will never forget the strangeness of seeing all of these animals walked through my backyard at the same time!   The kids were SCREAMING, the adults were screaming louder, and every single person had a smile on their face.  That moment alone was money well spent!  I'll never forget it.

The backyard petting zoo came with five goats, two sheep, an alpaca, two ducks, three hens, two of the cutest, most awkward looking chickens, and a miniature horse.  A total of 16 farm animals is not something that I expected.

The miniature horse was an absolute beauty!!  Guided by her owner, she pulled the kids around in a little cart for laps around our backyard.  The kids had an absolute BALL with the pony rides.  Above is the birthday boy sitting with his big cousin, my God Son.  Remember when I posted about HIS third birthday.  How time flies!  Look at the smile on his face.  It's proof that you're never too old to enjoy a pony ride!

All of the animals were extremely gentle.  The caretakers were very organized and pleasant.  They provided food for all of the animals that included dry food pellets, mealworms, and carrot sticks.  Most of the animals were kept behind giant metal gates, except for one very calm and well behaved goat and the miniature horse.  After set up time, they were there for a solid hour and the kids never tired of feeding the goats or going on their pony rides.  The animals were all very gentle and seemed to enjoy the attention except for one evil duck that bit the birthday boy!

In the words of my baby boy even after the vicious duck attack, "Best birthday EVER"!

Which one is your favorite animal?

  1. Well, I’m not sure what that fine feathered friend in the middle picture is, but I LOVE him! Hilarious! So glad the party was such fun and it’s nice to support a local business like that. My son loved goats as a kid. They have great personalities.

    1. Right? Same here! That chicken was the cutest thing that I've ever seen. Baby boy really enjoyed it, so that's all that matters.

  2. I am OK with animals being petted if they enjoy it but I do not support them pulling people, I just do not see animals as our slaves. I do ever so love me alpacas, they are so cute! Racoon is probably my fave animal.

    1. I think that they all wanted to be pet because they would push each other out of the way for a head rub. All except for that one duck, but he took care of himself.. LOL My favorites are pigs, but the lady said that they don't like to be pet. She was very protective of her animals.

  3. What an incredible party. I want one for MYSELF now! The chicken is all kinds of fun, but I do love me alpacas the best. If there would have been highland cows, I would have hopped on a plane and crashed your party LOL
