Life: Friday Ramblings

We finally gave in and...
...bought flowers to plant around our home.  As a reminder, we were delayed this year due to the deck disaster.  We decided to look past the deck and plant flowers anyways.  As always, we got baskets of bright pink and purple petunias.  Instead of our usual begonias, this year we opted to try our luck with dahlias.  These gorgeous blooms were planted in our flower beds and help brighten our backyard despite the ugly, dismantled eye sore of a deck.

We ripped up our...
...black eyed susans because they weren't doing too well.  We knew last year they were on their way out and decided to just rip off the bandaid.  In their place, I got a beautiful, rod iron, pedestal bird bath with a little metal bird sitting on the edge.  The birds are already preferring this bath over our old one which is still in our bird sanctuary.  Probably because it's a deeper dish making it better for bathing.

I'm totally FREAKING out because...
...Thursday was my exam to become a notary and I really have little confidence that I passed the test.  It was much more law based than I thought it would be and the study material they provided didn't help much.

I'm in complete shock that...
...I had to sign my daughter up for Summer camp already, my son is turning THREE in less than a month, my daughter's dance recital is in a few weeks, and every other reminder that life is just flying by.  It feels like we only had two true weeks of Spring and them Summer hit us with a vengeance.

What are your Friday Ramblings?

  1. We had a lot of dahlias in the old home, and they were very interesting because the flowers were red and white at the same time, almost like something painted ,not natural, so pretty. These red of yours are ordinary ones. We are currently in the iris blooming stage and the first lilies will be ready next month too.

    1. That sounds so pretty! We inherited (2) lily plants with out home and we have buds, but no blooms. They're so pretty, but they the ants march to them by thousands in a single file line and they die so quick. They're a short lived pleasure. This is my first time with dahlias. Any tips or are they simple to keep alive all season? I've also read mixed comments on whether or not they're annuals or perennials.

    2. Ours bloomed for many years, we stole them from a neighbour who had a flower shop and used them in bouquets. I shall put some photos on your Facebook, as I think you will want to have them when you see them.

  2. Dahlias are so pretty! You know why we can’t have them....I have to stick with marigolds for my annuals, with a few geraniums mixed in. I read online that spraying milk helps with the deer and rabbit problem, so I’m trying it out. Of course, it’s pouring the next few days, so I’ll have to see what happens.

Hope you passed the notary exam! Happy Memorial Day!

    1. Yes! It's still so foreign to me, although I thought of you when my son gave me a potted marigold for Mother's Day. It's my first marigold ever. I'm keeping it inside right now b/c of the demolished deck, but it's doing pretty well. My grandmother told me she used to plant marigolds around her vegetable garden to keep the rabbits away.

      Happy Memorial Day!

  5. I haven't even bought any flowers for my planters yet this year. The yard is full of perennials though, but my porch and deck are bare :( I do love me some dahlias and hope yours thrive!

Don't worry about your notary exam. My cousin is an idiot and passed. You strike me as someone much smarter than her so I bet you'll be just fine :)

  6. I could have sworn I commented on this one last week, but I guess it didn't take. I thought about planting dahlias in my garden this year too, to try and entice the pollinators to swing by because of their bright colors.

Also, I am sure you did fine with your notary exam. My cousin passed hers and she's an idiot. You strike me as someone much more intelligent than her LOL.
