Life: Friday Ramblings

This Sunday is...
...my baby girl's 8th birthday!!  We'll be shell-abrating sorry, I had to with a mermaid themed birthday party at our home.  She'll have a cake, a piñata, and a small group of people to enjoy her day with.  We're keeping her birthday bash small, intimate, and lots of fun!

In honor of Mushy Face's birthday, we're...
...going to try real hard to make the Pearl of the Ocean Macarons pictured above.  When I offered to make one recipe from her mermaid cook book, I thought she'd pick something simple.  Naturally, she picked one of the hardest recipes in the entire book.  Stay tuned to see how horribly wrong those come out!

I'm in complete shock at...
...the price of a communion bouquet!  I was going to order baby girl a corsage for her big day next week, but was quickly corrected by every family member and their mother, that my daughter needs a small bouquet.  Not believing this was a thing, I asked around everywhere.  Turns out, this is very much a thing.  After pricing communion bouquets from several different flower shops, the best price I could get was $65.  Imagine?  What are these girls going to expect when they get married if this is the expectation for a communion?!

We've been watching...
...The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.  This is the first show on Disney+ that I'm actually into!  It might have to do with the handsome Sebastian Stan or it might have to do with the story line, but I'm loving it.  Sadly, enjoying it a lot more than Walker!  Shh, don't tell anyone.

I'm really tired of...
...the working from home debate at my job.  The company I work for wants people to start returning the office, albeit slowly and in phases.  Many of the people that report to me are threatening to quit if they're forced to come back to the office.  1.  I'm not the one forcing you to come back.  It's a companywide initiative.  2.  Then quit.  I'm sick of having that held over my head like everyone is entitled to their jobs.  We need to look at this from a business perspective.  Managing people that are working remotely is not an easy task.  If management is forced to continue doing it, then what's stopping them from getting rid of your job and hiring someone overseas for a lot less?  Nothing is stopping them.  In fact, they'll probably be encouraged to do it to help the bottom line if people continue working from home.  Still not convinced?  Then call human resources.  End rant.

Please join me in wishing Mushy a very happy birthday!

    1. Can you please come and assist because we tried a test run AND FAILED!!!! I swear they're lying when they say that a whipped egg white turns into a merengue. Is it a joke from the recipe book?!

    2. I don't know I cannot see the recipe as the photo is very small. Is it just egg whites and sugar or some almond flour in it as well? Your egg whites have to be very clean from yolk and room temperature.

    3. yes, almond flour, egg whites, food coloring, and two different types of sugar.

  2. I’m the weirdo that hates macaroons. Ok, that’s harsh, but I just don’t get the hype, besides that they’re pretty. Good luck making them; looks very complicated to me.

My husband has been back to the office since last June, 3-4 days/week. His team is being phased back starting next month and one person has already quit because she can’t find child care for her baby. I’m with you. People got used to phoning it in (literally and figurative) and now don’t want to go back to reality.

    2. We did a trial run and to say it was a disaster is an understatement. I'm not much of a baker so this is a bit much. Although, we will try for a 2nd time tonight. If it doesn't go any better, then I will give up. The macarons tasted like sugar. Either I made them wrong, or they're just gross.

    3. Well that is how they taste like, nasty LOL You should've put almond flour in them and made macaroons instead macrons :))

    4. There was almond flour in there. What am I doing wrong?! It tasted like a sugary sponge.

    5. Yup, that’s how they taste! Nasty! It’s a scam that they’ve become so popular.

  3. So, I've only had macarons in Paris, but I really loved them. Maybe the French do them better than what the US does? Good luck on your baking journey with these. My daughter bought me that same cookbook for Christmas last year and I have yet to make anything from it, though all of the recipes are so pretty! Happy birthday to your big girl!

Look. We've all had a year off of work. It's time to get back to reality. The vaccines are available. Get one and get your butts back to the office. My husband's company never let anyone work from home from day one. They were provided with PPE and were all expected to show up or lose their jobs.
