Life: Friday Ramblings

I'm completely and totally FREAKING OUT that...
...one of my favorite living authors, Martha Hall Kelly, found my book review of her novel Lost Roses (link) on R&W.  She not only acknowledged the review, but followed me on Pinterest too!!  I'm officially one of the 235 accounts that she follows, right behind DAVID'S freaking BRIDAL!  It made my week and legit had me hardcore fan girling for hours.  Little did she know that I enjoy her novels so much, that I already reserved my copy of her new book, Sunflower Sisters,  that's scheduled to be released at the end of March.  Did I mention this whole thing made me really happy?!

We had a great day on...
...Valentine's Day!  My husband surprised me with reservations to our traditional Valentine's Day spot.  I didn't think we'd go because of obvious reasons, but he did some research and was comfortable with the precautions they put in place.  Our kids were visited overnight by Cupid so they woke up to some goodies.  This helped my daughter be less disappointed with the cancellation of her Sweetheart dance.

My son is clearly an...
...artist!  I asked him to draw me a lion and my little van Gogh made me the above picture.  It may have taken him 30 minutes and it may not be very lifelike, but for a 2 year old, I think it was good enough to be posted on the internet!

Mushy Face is ecstatic that...
...we found the matching dresser to her bed on Facebook.  My aunt gave us the bed when her daughter outgrew it a few months back.  Since the set is over a decade old, I never thought we'd find the exact matching dresser.  A woman was selling the dresser for $100.  It was in pretty good condition with the exception of a few markings on the top.  The dresser is valued at around $800 so baby girl wasn't the only one happy with the find.  We got rid of her nursery room dresser and replaced it with her big girl one.  She's so happy with it, that she has even been putting her clothes away without being told!

My husband went to the dark side when...
...he ordered the above suet feeder (link) with zero influence from me.  He overheard my dad and I talking about the woodpeckers that he sees on his property upstate.  I told him that the woodpecker he's seeing is called a pileated woodpecker.  They're very large and kind of ugly looking woodpeckers.  Well, contrary to my beliefs, my husband was listening to the conversation.  He went on Amazon, researched a feeder large enough for a pileated woodpecker to use comfortably, and then bought it.  The picture doesn't do it justice, but he was full of pride at his contribution to the bird sanctuary!

As a reminder...
...we are going away this weekend.  We left bright and early this morning and won't be back until late Sunday.  If I'm MIA this weekend, you know why.  We're in the mountains snowtubing.

What are your Friday Ramblings?

  1. You should use da opportunity and do an interview with Martha :) Da last celebrity that stalked my blog was the creator of that TRIBES OF EUROPA series which start tonight on Netflix. Send me nice regards two weeks ago at Twitter.
I'm trying to figure out how is that a lion, is he roaring and those in the middle are his teeth? LOL

    1. That's a such a good idea, but I don't even know how to host an interview! I'll have to get up the courage and do it. Either way, I got so excited. That's so cool, Dez! The celebrities seem to flock to your page. My favorite so far that I know about has been Loki. :) It's a lion! A Picaso version, but still a lion.. lol!

    2. Just ask her if she is up to it and then send her email questions and ask her for a few photos. Yes, Loki blessed us once upon a time, such fond memories... And then David Oakes recently, I still get hot flashes from it...

  2. A true artist indeed! Keep those creative juices flowing and one day he'll be in the MoMA!! I can't believe your mushy face is big enough to put her clothes away already. Where has the time gone? I love the suet feeder! My hubby keeps talking about bringing home two window feeders. One for my office window and one for my family room. I'm too afraid they'll fly right into the window and get hurt. Have fun in the snow!

  3. Your husband looks cute with the bird feeder, but pileated woodpeckers are my favorite, so please don’t call them ugly! Lol! I understand about the fan girling! One of my all time fave Road Rulers, Holly, replied to one of my Instagram comments about her on a RW/RR page. I was super pumped! Your son’s drawing IS good for a 2 year old!

    Safe travels!

  4. The place I went to you for Valentines was reservation only. One couple drove all the way from Charlotte to Greenville which is about an hour and a half and got turned away. They weren’t wearing masks so I wasn’t too sympathetic with them

  5. This is the first Valentine's Day in almost 25 years that I didn't spend with Jason, but we don't celebrate it anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. I think it's so cute your hubby secretly ordered that feeder for you. He's definitely a keeper!

Love seeing the little artist's work. Kids drawings are so fun!

Super cool she followed you on Pinterest. I still get a little geeked when big names/companies follow me or repin my content or use one of my photos in their social media outlets. Maybe you'll become lifelong friends and she'll start sending you advanced readers copies of her new releases. How cool would that be!?

    1. I have a couple of our bestselling writers as my friends at Facebook. One of them is really lovely and often likes my posts, the other, who is actually our top selling author, thinks I'm some religious fanatic or something just because I occasionally post something about Russia, and he once had a fight with me about it. Imagine one of your fave writers coming to attack you unprovoked LOL I also have a few UK writers as my friends there, some are very nice people, like Glyn Illife for example.
