Life: Friday Ramblings

As I was packing up my lap top to...
...go into the office for the day, I heard something fall and then bounce.  It sounded similar to when a marble would fall onto a wooden floor.  At first I thought it was an animal behind me, but when I turned around, I realized it was much worse.  My poor little baby lemon jumped off of my lemon tree and started to roll away.  I was so upset because that lemon was about three months in the making as you can see from the picture on this post (link).  I cut the lemon in half just to say that I tasted it, and placed it under my bamboo tree like some sort of weird lemon death ritual.  Do you see it sitting there on top of the rocks?  Let's all have a moment of silence.

In all seriousness though...
...why is it so freaking hard to grow an edible lemon!  We're on year three, hundreds of flowers, a handful of baby, tear dropped shaped lemons that never grew, and now one golf ball sized lemon that jumped to it's death.  Clearly, I'm doing something wrong.  Any and all lemon growing advice is welcome.

I'm very happy with the...
...growth of my bamboo plant that's pictured!  My husband had that delivered to my work office for Valentine's Day about 4 years ago and it's grown to unbelievable heights.  The three heart shaped tree trunks are still there with long leaves growing up and falling down similar to Poppy's hairstyle from the movie Trolls.

We plan on watching...
...Walker this weekend to help ease the pain of our Thursday night timeslot that was once Supernatural.  I'll have to circle back and let you all know how it was.

We had a blast celebrating...
...The Viking's birthday last weekend!  He hasn't been feeling too hot because of back issues, but they finally found a treatment that helped with the pain.  While it was last minute, we still managed to put together a dinner worthy of a birthday celebration and had a cake to put candles in.  It was just our family of 4 plus my father, but I'm really liking these low key events.  I find they're actually more enjoyable.  Especially since I get to sit down and participate in the fun as hostess!  Here's to many more birthday celebrations with the Viking, Dad, Daddy, and now Nonno.

What are your Friday Ramblings?

  1. That’s how I feel when I’m all excited for an orchid that’s budding and then the bud just falls off! So disappointing! My advice? Move to California if you want a lemon tree! Lol! I have a friend from high school who lives in Florida and he’s been waiting years for a banana from his backyard tree. Apparently, it’s not as easy as one would think.

    1. LOL Well, moving to California is so not an option.. but I do bring it inside at the very start of the Fall. I have six sky lights and more windows than a wall. It gets plenty of heat and sunlight so what the heck!?

  2. Hope Walker does not disappoint you!
Our lemons are deep yellow now, they've only recently took them inside when the temps fell below zero, palm tree is still outside under the shed.

    1. I won't be too critical on Walker, but if it wasn't for Jared Padalecki being extremely handsome..I wouldn't watch it again. LOL

  3. LOL at Bijoux about moving to Cali. My cousin lives there and the lemons on her tree look like they've been fed a hefty dose of steroids. They are massive! She gives many of them away because she can't possibly go through them all. She started her avocado tree a few years ago, but I don't think those will fruit for 10 years or so, but I expect she'll have steroid avocados too.

Walker keeps popping up in my Facebook timeline. It's probably not one I'll watch, but I hope it doesn't disappoint you.

    1. I'd take a wimpy lemon at this point..LOL Oh, an avocado tree sounds fun. If I try anything at this point it would be another fig tree. I hope Walker does well only b/c I'm a fan of Jared Padalecki.

    2. Well, I planted a cherry tree 4 years ago, and while it's big and healthy, no damn fruit yet. I thought by now I would have had enough for a small hand pie or something. I suppose your lemon tree and my cherry tree are conspiring to drive us nuts.

    3. LOL Looks like fruit trees are just frustrating creatures!! Maybe I should just stick to the birds. Or, maybe our trees need a mate! :)

    1. Yes! Bamboo trees are actually illegal to plant in the ground around here b/c they are so invasive.
