Life: Friday Ramblings

We celebrated another...
...7th birthday while in quarantine.  This time it was my daughter's BFF since a baby.
We decorated the car, blasted the happy birthday song, and SCREAMED as loud as we could.
While it's nice to give someone a birthday parade, it's just not the same as celebrating together.
This is the first year that we didn't help blow out this little girl's birthday candles.
...and yes, her mother and I both cried like babies...

I cried my eyes out even harder when...
...the governor of NY finally announced school closings for the rest of the year.
We all knew it was coming, but it was quite a blow for it to become official.
Luckily, my daughter is only in the first grade.  Imagine how the seniors are feeling this year?
FYI - Our seniors started school with 9/11 and are ending it in a pandemic.  Send them love!
To work full time and home school is impossible.  Hopefully this will be all over soon.

We're super itchy because... daughter's lesson this week was all about  S P I D E R S  !!!
That means spider videos, spider books, and lots and lots of facts all about spiders.
I laughed at her nonfiction book assignment.  Every page was about a time that I freaked over a bug!

My daughter is moping around because...
...we were supposed to be in Disney this week!  I didn't think she'd realize, but she did.
Alexa decided to give us a reminder thanks to a countdown app that I forgot we set up months ago.

We're all shook because... husband got sent to several major hospitals this week for work.
He took pictures of giant refrigerated tents that were all filled to the rim with dead bodies.
Want a quick reality check?  That will do it for you, trust me.

I'm trying real hard to save... lemon tree!  I can't figure out why all her leaves are falling and all the lemons died.
Is she feeling the wave of defeat that took over my home or is something else wrong with her?
C A L L I N G  A L L  L E M O N  T R E E  E X P E R T S  ! !  S O S  ! !

We're anxiously awaiting for...
...the results to our antibody testing.  This will tell us if we were infected with COVID19 and didn't know it.
I think the experts are hoping for a herd immunity in NY as a last hope for this to end.
Is it wrong to secretly hope we were already infected?  Sigh...

To add to the worst week ever...
...I got the news that I have to pick eight employees to fire.
That's a quarter of my team that I'll be losing.  Who is going to do that extra work?
That's eight families that will be without their income.  Who is going to support them?
That's eight people that I'm supposed to lead, not fire over a phone without even a hug goodbye.
It's been a few days since I've got the news and I'm still shook.  No sleep and lots of tears...

What are your Friday Ramblings?

  1. You are obviously a lemon killer, maybe you should try it with oranges?

It is horrible how many people are losing jobs around the world, I've no idea myself if I will have any work this year.

    1. But what am I doing wrong?! I water her. I love her. I spray her with fungicide. I turn her dirt. Why are all the leaves falling off? The branches are practically bare now.

It's terrible. It's an awful feeling not know when you'll get your next pay check. I feel for you, Dez. We keep praying this ends soon so that you and others can prosper.

    2. Lemon does occasionally drop its leaves and then has them again, it has its cycles of leaves, flowers, fruit...

    3. Really??? It's FILLED with flowers. But all the leaves are falling off. This is normal?? OMG you made my day!! I really was so very sad thinking that it was going to die.

    4. I think it is, we took our lemons outside weeks ago, the weather is warm enough for them, they need sun.

    5. After carefully inspecting the lemon tree, we found several signs of life including microscopic baby leaves starting to form. I think she’s safe... for now :)

  2. First: Oh heck no, spiders. Skip that lesson! haha

I'm so sorry your husband had to witness that. Heartbreaking AND scary. I'm usually someone who stays quiet these days. But there was a lady in Walmart (not going there again) that was telling the cashier that COVID wasn't that bad maybe even fake. No one she knew died, those that did had health issues. I couldn't take it anymore. I finally told her about my family up there. One young deceased who had been healthy prior, one dying, and another whose partner died, don't tell me it's fake or overblown. She said, "Well, that's NY for you." WHAT??? I just can't. So frustrating. My heart goes out to you guys. Especially the kids.

    1. LOL @ the spider lesson. I had the same reaction.

My husband sent me a picture yesterday of a sign on the door of the facility he was working at. It said it big bold letters "ALL COVID19 POSITIVE BODIES GO INTO TRAILER". Tell that to the lady at Walmart the next time she says it isn't real. SMH! And what does THAT mean, "that's NY for you". She's lucky you didn't go NY on her.. that would've taught her.. hahaha

    2. Elsie, your page disappeared! This is the second week in a row that it tells me the page no longer exists. Are you still blogging or going through a remodel?

  3. Do you mean that the seniors were born in 2001? I do feel so sad for all the HS and college seniors who have missed out on irreplaceable memories.

Lol on the spider book! At our last family zoom happy hour, we talked about our wolf spider stories from the old house. It's funny that all my kids remember them so vividly! Cuz I freaked out??

Horrible to have to fire so many people. Hugs!

    1. Yes. They started their education with weeks out of school because of 9/11 and now they are ending it that way. Talk about bad luck... I feel awful for the seniors.

WHAT is a a wolf spider?? Nevermind, I don't want to know.. LOL

  4. Your schools just got closed? I thought that schools around the entire country were closed. It's so sad that you couldn't have a regular celebration of the BFF's birthday.

    1. They were supposed to reopen May 15. While we all expected the permanent closure, the governor officially announced it last week. Happy Mother’s Day!

  5. Yikes! I hope your lemon tree survives! I did want to let you know that I've been putting a cap full of bleach in the flowers that Jason buys me every payday and it actually does prolong their life. I know we talked about that awhile back and I finally got around to testing it out. I change the water every other day, rinse the stems, then add in another cap of bleach to the fresh water.

Don't even talk to me about spiders. They make my skin crawl.

So sorry to hear about your employees. Jason had to lay off 40% of his workers last month. He said it was the worst day of his life. None of them deserved to go, but a business can't continue to pay when there's no work. Hopefully the economy rebounds and he can bring them back on if they haven't found new jobs yet.

    1. That’s awesome!! I’m going to do that next time then. My tulips barely lasted a week here. I opted for daisys more recently and got a full 2 weeks out of them.

Ugh, tell Jason to stay strong. It’s a terrible part of the job. Enough to make you question your career!

  6. Happy 7th birthday to your daughter, Jax 🎂.
I pray for your daughter to grow up healthy, also beautiful and nice person like you 🙂.

Don't forget, I also pray that the results of your antibody test report will be fine.

    Greeting from Indonesia.

    1. Thank you for your kind words. Let’s pray for health and happiness.

  7. That is unnerving that he has to be in those spots. Stinks you have to fire people too. The school year being a bust is a given pretty much everywhere. They announced it here yesterday. No Disney til 2022 lol

    1. Disney starting May. Do you see the light? Don’t make me sing.

  8. Happy belated 7th birthday! And you may keep the spiders.... I'm afraid I'm not a lemon tree expert. Blue berries, yes... Lemons, not so much. Unless they're blue lemons, obviously. Hey... happy Mother's Day, Jax!

    And stay safe now.

    1. Thanks, Blue! Same to you and yours. :)

  9. I'm glad I'm not in school anymore.

    1. I’d love to go back if I could be 15 again lol
