Review: A honest & detailed review of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream.

A few months back I posted about the Neutrogena Ageless Intensives serum.  As a quick refresher, this was a product I stumbled upon accidentally but fell deeply in love with.  After posting, our favorite Spy, Dezmond from Hollywood Spy, gave some great advice.  He recommended that at my age of 31, you would want to use a good moisturizer versus an anti aging serum.  I'm still using the serum in the AM, but I limit my use to the two lines on my forehead.  Damn you tanning salons through high school & my real early 20s!  You have prematurely aged my skin..  With that small exception, I did decide to follow Dezzy's skin care advice!

I hunted through the internet for reviews on the best moisturizer for my age and skin type.  I have that obnoxious skin type that somehow manages to be oily and dry at the same time.  All reviews pointed me in the direction of my favorite skin care brand, Neutrogena.

The product is called Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel.

I purchased the product through Amazon Prime and began using it immediately.  It's officially been three months of use which makes me comfortable enough to give an opinion.

Review:  Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

This product is part of Neutrogena's skin care line to help hydrate and restore suppleness to extra dry skin.

Aside from reviews, what prompted you to purchase this product?

First and foremost, it's made by a brand that I trust for both quality and ingredients.  I have God awful allergies that are triggered by almost anything.  Their products never trigger it!  Other selling factors were that it's fragrance free, oil free, dye free, and non-comedogenic.  While seemingly insignificant, they are important to me due to allergies and easily clogged pores.  The final selling point was the inclusion of Hyaluronic acid which is a natural aid to absorb moisturizer.

How do you apply the Hydro Boost water gel to your skin?

I thoroughly wash and dry my face and neck.  Then I apply a quarter size dollop on my face and neck.   A little bit of this product goes a long way making over application unnecessary.

What do you like about the product?

It absorbs almost immediately and leaves behind a cool, hydrated feeling on my skin.  Unlike the anti-aging products, you see immediate results which is hydrated,  g l o w i n g  skin.  I also enjoy the price of the product which is under $20 for something that lasts about 3 months.

An unexpected benefit of this moisturizer, is after a few weeks of repeated use, my face produced less oil.  In the past, after a few hours, my face would need a pat down to eliminate extra oil.  I want to glow, not shine and glisten like an oily potato ready to be fried.  Just saying..  While I still am producing oil, especially in my T Zone, it's never excessive enough for a midday pat down!

I would recommend Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel skincare product.

  1. Costco usually has this on sale, so I will have to pick it up the next time it's discounted to give a try. I use a moisturizer in the morning and an anti aging cream at night. I think my skin still looks pretty good for being 40. I started this routine in my early 20's and it has served me well.

    1. You should try it!! I really dislike moisturizing b/c that oily feeling bugs me. Your skin feels hydrated, not oily. It's great! From the pictures I've seen, your skin looks better than mine at 31. :)

  2. See, you should always listen to the all wise Dezzy the Great :) I do love Neutrogena myself in daily face washing gels. Their pink grapefruit line is the only one that does not give me acne. I myself love to put a bit of Vitamin C serum on my face once a week before applying nutritive face cream (usually just simple Nivea Soft). Skin shines like a star after Vitamin C.
You should start using antiage things when you are close to 40 or over it. Just use some collagen for lines if you have them. It works miracles, even with very deep lines, like the ones above your eyebrows created by squinting.

    1. Where do I get collagen? When I look it up all I see are pills or powders. Neutrogena is the best, isn't it? I use Dove bar soap for my face, but most of my products are Neutrogena. Even their foundation is the best! But who needs foundation these day?? lol

    2. I'm sure there are creams with collagen there too, or ask your pharmacist to fix you some apothecary cream with it, if they do that over there. I myself use Avon's Age Restore with collagen.
I use Dove's shower gels, they are the only ones that keep skin soft and hydrated. But I did not like any of their scents in recent years, sadly.

    3. I just purchased a tub of Collagen Face Moisturizer by L'Oreal Paris Skin Care through Amazon. Let's see if that helps more than the retinol cream.

I use the Dove foaming body wash as shaving cream, otherwise it's Dove Sensitive Skin bar soap for me. The last time I changed soap to something with a fragrance or moisturizer, I needed a shot of steroids to get rid of the reaction.

  3. Is this product also recommended for male use?
I want to try using it.

    1. I don't believe it is based on gender. To be honest, I caught my husband try it, but he would kill me for telling his secret. :)

    2. I personally usually find female face creams much more effective than the ones for men, they don't really put in much effort when they are producing products for men LOL I've seen men's creams which are at the same time face cream, shaving cream and face wash. How can you put all three functions in one cream and make it good????

    3. @ Jax =

Ooh ..., don't let that happen Jax.
Your husband is killing you only because of the youthful cosmetics ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคญ

      @ Dezmond =

      I think that's right too.
Based on personal experience, I see cosmetics for women more effectively the formula is used for men's skin.

  4. I like this review, especially since I can relate to some of your issues. I've had some bad allergic reactions to a few products I've used on my eyelids, one which was OcuSoft eye wipes that an ophthalmologist gave me as samples. So irritating!

I've also had issues with break outs from moisturizers. I will check out this product.

    1. Let me know what you think!! The best part is, no oily feeling afterwards. It absorbs right in.

  5. I absolutely love this stuff! My MIL recommended it to me about six months ago and I haven't looked back. It simply rocks! Best stuff I used. Ever. (Can you tell I like it?)

I'm glad you like it too!!

    Stay healthy and safe,
