Life: Friday Ramblings

We had a successful celebration of...
...The Viking's 57th birthday!
It was complete with stuffed shells, a casada cake, all his grandbabies, and cowboy hats!
He recently returned from a trip to Texas and brought cowboy hats for the babies which they  l o v e d  !!
It was a simple night, but filled with lots of children's laughs, making it a success.

I feel like a weight lifted off of me when...
...I received my company sponsored HSA allowance for 2020 and paid off 32 medical bills!
I miss the days when health insurance actually covered stuff, but that's a discussion for another day.

I can't stop laughing at...
...the birthday cake above where the self proclaimed Italian bakery misspelled Nonno.
If grandpa is "Nono" does that make grandma "Yesyes"?  Just kidding...
Despite the obvious mistake, the cake was absolutely delicious!

I'm really upset because...
...we laid down sticky pads in the basement to catch the lobster sized crickets.
Instead of catching a cricket, we caught the cutest, little mouse!

I'm growing more concerned daily at...
...my son's growing nose injury!  He fell on his nose earlier this week and it keeps getting worse.
While the swelling is going down slowly, the bruising is going to from black to green and spreading out.
His doctor says if there was no blood then it can't be broken, but then someone told me it looked "crushed".
Here's to the health of my smushy baby boy's little button nose!

I'm having a really hard time...
...focusing!  Like, a really hard time.  A harder time than ever before.
I constantly feel like I'm running in circles and yet I don't seem to get anywhere.
...and, no, it's not because I'm a mom.  I think it's from clutter of the brain.
I start the day planning to get things done at work, yet ending the day farther behind.
I swear that I'm going to finish a marketing paper that's due in less than a week, yet don't even start.
I expect to write out a new post for R&W, but it never seems to get finished.
If anyone has any advice on how to focus, please let me know!

I'm crying, sentimental, and all out depressed because...
...a dear, childhood friend of mine passed away earlier last week.
For most of my early life through my mid twenties, my "crew" consisted of about 6 people.
Throughout the years, that crew has since grown apart.
We have very little communication these days and see each other even less.
Despite this, I was sickened to learn that a cherished member of our group passed alone in his apartment.
The cause of death is still unknown, but is pending an autopsy.
His unexpected death has brought us all back together, minus one, and we're all questioning..
"What happened to us?"
Here's a prayer for his soul to find the peace, love, and company he so deserves in heaven.
While life took us separate ways, you'll always be in my heart!  Rest in peace, friend.

What are your Friday Ramblings?

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. That's something that is really hard to get over, especially a childhood friend that you shared so much with. Big hugs!

    Pitiful about the 'Italian' bakery!

    1. Yes, it was so incredibly sad. We held it together for the most part, but seeing his mom break down at the service made me lose it too. As a mom, I felt double the pain.

  3. I remember a boy on my baseball team passing away within a week after a sleepover. It is so bizarre and unexpected especially any age before 30

  4. 32 medical bills? That's like mediocre for you lmao you mellowing out in your old age? And you even have pet mice in the basement. You really are mellowing out haha

Stinks about your friend indeed. Hopefully the kiddo's nose gets better.

Concentration is easy, just say you won't concentrate and then you will.

    1. LOL Well, I pay as I go with some of them, and I still have quite a bit left.. but, it was still a huge relief to get them out of my "To pay" bin.

Would you believe it's still all bruised? I can't believe it! I really hope it isn't broken.

Concentration is not easy when you zero motivation. It's crazy what I do to distract myself when I just don't want to do something.

    2. Yeah, you distract yourself with weirdos. lol

Getting them off the to pay list is a win indeed. Hopefully his nose is getting a little better.

  6. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend :( And for your baby's nose :(

Don't get me started on medical bills. You should see how much my biologic infusions cost every 8 weeks ($5000!) Thankfully, they have a discount program that drastically reduces the cost, but I still have to pay for the use of the center and nurses on top of that (about $600 out of pocket).

    1. What is a biologic infusion? It sounds painful and expensive. :( It's terrible how they kill us with medical bills! My son and I really need to see an allergist. We don't go just b/c we can't afford it. I'm sick of owing all the doctors on Long Island money! My daughter needs an annual visit to a cardiologist. We're out of pediatric cardiologists at this point! I'm going to have to take out a loan to pay one back in full.

    2. The biologics were made as a chemo drug, but when it failed to produce positive results, they tried it for IBD and found that it helped some patients receive remission through the infusions. It's not painful, but it is a 2 hour IV process that leaves me tired for 2 days afterwards. It comes with some pretty risky side effects too, but for me, I'll take the risk. So far, so good.

I'm sorry that you are working just to pay for specialists. I will never understand how one of the richest countries in the world cannot afford to cover its citizen's health care costs. Or, even just mandate something where the prices aren't out of reach for people.

You can be anything that you choose if you apply yourself and try hard to work toward that goal. But being a Vampire is not what it seems like. It’s a life full of good, and amazing things. We are as human as you are.. It’s not what you are that counts, But how you choose to be. Do you want a life full of interesting things? Do you want to have power and influence over others?
