We are currently living in an age where people do and have things that I just don't understand.
The newest fad that I don't understand to hit my generation is the art of a “selfie”.
Selfie: A close up picture of yourself taken at a
flattering angle typically via cell phone.
Because, you know,
cameras are so out of date! Sigh…
My cousin is obsessed with taking selfies.
She snaps them every chance she gets and loves to share them on social media.
If we plan a girls night, she will respond with, "We have to take selfies!".
I hate taking selfies. They are never flattering for me and usually make me want a nose job!
For Christmas, my uncle (Cousin's father), bought her the best gift ever!
He bought her a selfie stick.
Yes, that has really been created!
Selfie Stick: A long stick with a handle on one end and a clasp to hold your phone on the other. Its purpose is to take selfies with maximum flatterization*. All you need to do is adjust the clasp to fit your cell phone, set the camera on a timer, angle the stick, and smile!
*Yes, I know flatterization is not a real word, but neither is selfie!!!
I've walked through Manhattan and seen groups of people blocking walkways huddled under a selfie stick.
I've seen girls sitting on benches posing for their selfie stick like paid models.
I've seen my cousin making kissy faces to her inanimate selfie stick and giggle at the result.
I'm all for capturing memories, but this is just way too funny!
What do you think about the Selfie Stick? Is it a selfie do or don't?
They should stick the stick where the sun..... :) if you ask me.. You know what me means....
ReplyDeleteLol so I am taking it that you think it is a selfie dont??? Hahahaha I agree, dez!
Deleteand we thought the printing press or antibiotics was man's greatest invention. But this one is by far man's greatest invention. I expect world peace by next week.
ReplyDeletelmao!!! And the first selfie DO is Adam. I have to admit that I am surprised. Haha
DeleteI think they just renamed the idiot stick into the selfie stick. Now idiots can use it and not be named an idiot, err umm, nope didn't work. Still an idiot. To each their own but they can take their selfies and their sticks and stick them up their arse. Now I'm done sticking it to them and if they don't like it, they can stick it.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean that you have no plans of owning one in the future, Pat??? I mean, I am sure the cat would love one!! Haha
DeleteHe'd chew it to bits and then get the umm err runs
DeleteUhh no. I still haven't seen someone use one of those IRL yet. And I hope I never do
ReplyDeleteLol it's really something you need to see to believe... haha
DeleteWe actually own a selfie stick and bought it last year for our trip to Europe and it came in handy and we got some great pictures out of it - since most of the time you hate to ask people to take your picture!! it works and you get a great angle without having your arm in the photo!! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteHaha I am so glad to hear this!!!!! My cousin uses hers all of the time and loves it. The concept is silly, but it looks like you had a valid reason to use it. :) one more for selfie do!!!
DeleteSo funny. So you carry your little phone around because it's small and convenient...and then you carry that stick around, too, to be able to fit your whole body in the shot?
ReplyDeleteThis is true...I didn't even think about carrying around the stick. I wonder what inconvenience that is...hmmm.
Deletehaha, the selfie stick is totally crazy BUT I have one. But I must defend myself, I have never once used it for a 'flattering' selfie of myself. I got it for hiking and because we are perhaps heading off to Paris this fall if all goes according to plan. So, I wanted it for those two reasons. I don't sit around and take pictures of myself, I swear! But you're right, they are ridiculous. I think they would be halfway better if people didn't call them a 'selfie stick'... more like a 'vacation memory taker' is what I'd prefer :)
ReplyDeleteLol maybe you are right. The name is definitely contributing to the bad rep its getting. I guess that it could be a useful too for vacations as blovedboston pointed out. But I am so glad to have selfie dos!!!!!
DeleteP.S. I am just secretly jealous because I am totally camera shy. I'm working on it!
Selfies are weird, but what I really hate is boring posed photos. A shot of people laughing or moving is so much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteAfter going through instagram, I counted 3 selfies my cousin just took last night alone!!! I think you should follow her since you loovveee selfies so much. I kid, I kid. :)
DeleteHaha, this post is too funny- I hear you, girl!
ReplyDeleteThe selfie stick is too much; and HOW EMBARRASSING in public!

LMAO Yes, a little embarrassing, but more embarrassing when you are taking a solo selfie in the street with it. haha
DeleteOh my gosh, YES! I always hate selfies of myself and alllllllllways want a nose job! Ah! I rarely take them because I haven't mastered the art of hiding the size of my nose, ha ha!
ReplyDelete(Okay, that's a lie. Sometimes I snap a selfie of Mia and me... but I just pray that everyone is too busy looking at Mia, to notice my nose. True story!)
Lol!!!! I take comfort in knowing that I am not alone. Hahaha
DeleteI think this looks like such fun. A great way to gain perspective on phone photographs.
ReplyDeleteAnother selfie do :)
DeleteI thought a selfie was just a picture that someone took of themselves no matter what they were using to take it. Well , since I don't even know what a selife is, I won't comment on the selfie stick even.
ReplyDeleteI think it could be handy sometimes but I don't see why you can't get somebody else to take the picture or prop the camera up on something.
ReplyDeleteWe saw a guy on the beach in saint Thomas using the selfie stick it was hilarious he kept adjusting his towel over his chest making ridiculous faces Hahahahaha
