In honor of Turkey day, let's share some recipes that are sure to impress your host. I'm all for desserts from the bakery... My growing waistline can attest to that! ...but, let's be a little more impressive and bring something simple for the main course, like cranberry sauce!
Typically, we go to my grandmother's house for Thanksgiving. We are Sicilian, so you can imagine the feast she prepares. It's like a little piece of Sicilian heaven, plus a turkey. I can't wait for that lasagna! In attempt to Americanize our meals for the American holiday, I'll bring a few traditional dishes. I'll make homemade cranberry sauce, garlic brussel sprouts and corn bread. In this post, I'll be sharing my super easy recipe for homemade and FRESH cranberry sauce!

Recipe: Fresh Cranberry Sauce
Ingredients
(12) Ounces of Fresh Cranberries
(1/4) Cup Orange Juice
(1) Cup Sugar
(1) Cup Water
To make the homemade cranberry sauce, start by simply mixing the water, orange juice, and sugar together in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add the cranberries and stir. Bring the mixture back to a boil and cook for 15 minutes on medium heat. Remove the pot from the stove. With a potato masher, mash the mixture together.
If you prepare a chunkier cranberry sauce, cover the finished product with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. If you prefer a a jellied type cranberry sauce similar to the canned product strain the sauce and work it through a fine colander like this one (link). Take the strained mixture, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.
If you're feeling extra festive, try this cranberry sauce serving plate to make your simple recipe look a little extra!

DeleteThis is embarrassing. I don't have any recipes. I remember when I was little though, I used to love this lasagna that my aunt made and I would look forward to it till we had a family gathering. One time I put a ridiculous amount of it on my plate, and everyone was like "you're never gonna finish all that!" and they were right... but oh well, it's not my fault the lasagna was so good.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love lasagna. I am pretty sure I would give Garfield decent competition. Lol
Deletewell if it was Turkey day as in Turkey the country, I could do some belly dance :) but with turkey as a bird, I don't cook nor eat meat
ReplyDeleteI will totally take the belly dance, Dez!!!! Lol love it!!

DeleteI only had cranberry sauce recently and liked it. This year, my boyfriend works 3:30-12:30 on Thanksgiving and I work 7:30-midnight. Then we both work again Black Friday. I'm pretty sure we'll be ordering pizza.
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm sorry to hear that your Thanksgiving dinner will be pizza. Maybe you two can cook up a Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. Just pretend it's Thursday and you will never know. haha
DeleteDo you do the full on Italian Thanksgiving with lasagna/pasta first and then traditional, American turkey and everything? My family does that and I swear, you gain 10 lbs. just looking at it!
ReplyDeleteI HATE cranberry sauce from the can, so I'm loving this recipe. Thanks for sharing, girl!
My Thanksgiving contribution is always a pumpkin dessert - this year I'm doing pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin whoopie pies, and chocolate whoopie pies. Stressing already about where the time to make it all will come from!
Yes, we do!! lol It's nothing compared to Christmas Eve though. Nothing scares my man, but the Christmas Eve feast makes him shake! lol!! It's like an annual challenge for him. lol!!
DeleteAll my recipes are what I like to call "bachelor cuisine". It requires finding anything in your fridge and/or pantry that won't make you sick if it's crammed together and eating until you're full. My favourite one is peanut butter spread on a slice of cheese with sultanas sprinkled on top. Sometimes a bit of honey too.
ReplyDeleteVampires is not at all like in the movies or books. Sure, I understand. You are young you have the whole world open to you. You can be anything that you choose if you apply yourself and try hard to work toward that goal. But being a Vampire is not what it seems like. It’s a life full of good, and amazing things. We are as human as you are.. It’s not what you are that counts, But how you choose to be. Do you want a life full of interesting things? Do you want to have power and influence over others? To be charming and desirable? To have wealth, health, and longevity, I can help you solve any problem you are having
