Update: Check out my guest post over at Miraculous Ladies !!!!
A few weeks back, the lovely Jannine from FashionistArg asked me for some hair advice!
A few weeks back, the lovely Jannine from FashionistArg asked me for some hair advice!
Don't know her? You should! She's a total make up and fashion goddess!! Not even kidding...
You see, Jannine and I have very fine/thin hair which could be difficult to manage.
It gets oily very quickly but can get very dry just as quick.
See where the problem is?
If you don't use the appropriate tools or products, your hair can get very damaged.
Fine hair also falls very flat very quickly. It's hard to give it life and style.
My options are limp, dead, and lifeless or my natural, frizzy curls!! Eep...
I hated my hair until I became a self proclaimed shampoo guru!
Some people may argue that all shampoos are the same. It's not true.
You find this out the hard way when you have very sensitive, fine hair. It's awful!
My shower holds 30 bottles of shampoo and conditioner.
Each bottle is for a different day. Some shampoos are better for certain weather or seasons.
...and no, I'm totally not crazy. I swear...
Jax's Top 5 Favorite Shampoos and Conditioners.
5. Kenra Volumizing Shampoo/Conditioner Combo
This brand is great for the spring/summer. It's also a great choice when you're battling humidity, yet still want to rock straight or wavy hair. Makes your hair look shiny and healthy while feeling soft!
Oh, and it totally makes you hair smell delicious!!!!
4. Chi Shampoo & Infra Treatment
This brand is amazing for during the winter or fall months. It can turn dry, dull hair into a mane with life!
Tip: Mix the Infra Treatment with conditioner for extra moisture. You're hair will shine!
3. John Frieda Full Repair Conditioner
This conditioner is a gift from the universe! I apply it generously at least twice a week to my hair for the shampoos that ride solo in my shower. Leaves a healthy glow without the nasty grease look.
This conditioner is like a magic potion! Many conditioners can leave you hair feeling dirty.
2. Shea Moisture Yucca Shampoo/Conditioner/Masque
This set is amazing for anytime that your hair is feeling over processed and damaged. I use this at least once a week all year round. It's never let me down and makes my hair feel and look real thick!
This brand is very hard to find. I've only seen it sold in Target and I've searched everywhere for it!
1. Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo
This is by far my favorite shampoo. I use it every other day without fail. It does everything that a shampoo should do. It cleans without over cleaning, leaves your hair shiny and soft, and totally makes me smile!
...and it smells like coconut which just happens to be my favorite scent in the world!!!
Some other important shampoo tips is to always purchase sulfate free shampoo. Sulfates can do serious damage do your hair follicles. Another thing I try and look for is paraben free.
Paraben is so bad for you that spell check isn't even recognizing it as a real word. Just sayin...
What are your favorite shampoo/conditioners for your hair type?

My favorite kind is Sour Apple Suave....that stuff is expensive ($3 / gallon) but it makes my hair smell like Jolly Rancher candies..
ReplyDeleteOhh, so you like smelling like Jolly Rachers?? Noted! hahaha
DeleteI get naturally bad dandruff so just head and shoulders for me.
ReplyDeleteOhh, if it works for you, then it works!!
DeleteWell I only have one in my shower but thanks to you it is number one on your list and yeah it does work nicely.
ReplyDeleteLMAO Kudos to meeee!! And, how much do you LOVE it??? Great shampoo!1 Amazing, godly, fantastic shampoo!!
DeleteWell I don't know if I'd use the words godly and shampoo together or if the cat would ever give you kudos. But yes it does amaze...lol
DeleteWhy not?? Don't lie...you LOVED it!!!!! Amaze? Hmm interesting...
DeleteOhhh this is just what I need! I'm going to save this page so that I know what to buy next week lol I adore shampoo that leaves your hair nicely scented... just love it! A couple of years ago, in France, I bought the most incredible conditioner ever. It came in a little tub and smelled sooo good! Unfortunately I don't remember the name though lol.
ReplyDeleteOh, really? Awesome!!! Girl, you made my day!! Let me know which ones you like and which ones you don't. Honestly, I looovvveee talking about hair products. :)
DeleteOhh, a french conditioner??? I want, I want!!
Oh, gosh, I have a million bottles in my shower, too! I have thickish, curly hair that looooves to frizz, so I am alwys fighting that.
ReplyDeleteMy absolute, by far favorite is Wen. It is a cleansing conditioner, so it is gentle on your hair, and I'm telling you, the first time I washed with it, I was amazed. It leaves my curles juicy, rather than frazzled :) The downside, and the reason I have lots of other bottles, is it is expensive and you have to use a lot of it to use it properly. It is definitely an indulgence for me. I'm gonna try some of yours now, though!
A million? Girl, you're after my heart!!!! lol I don't have thick hair, but mine certainly does love the frizz. I have to try this Wen out. I've heard so much about it! ;)
DeleteYou would be scared to be in my shower! My husband and I share our shampoo and conditioner. I'm sure all the different products are worth it though; I just can't deal with all of the bottles.
ReplyDeleteEep!!! You share the same??? lol
DeleteHI THERE!
ReplyDeletethank you so much for all of these suggestions! i´ll try them out as soon as my current bottles finish. considering i only have 2 pieces of luggage i can´t indulge myself in bringin 10 bottles of shampoo on tour. LOL
Now, onto my most recent discovery: last time i purchased my hair dye i was with my sister in Barcelona and we went to a store that specifically sold hair products... so the lovely lady helped me find something appropriate for my hair. and she recommended a shampoo by L´oreal´s professional line that´s good for keeping my color in place and it leaves it shiny and healthy! i´ll tweet you a picture of the product when i get home :)
and then from the same line i got a treatment, that just like you, i use twice a week to keep my poor little ends hydrated and pretty!
thanks for all of these great ideas!!! :) i´m excited to try these out!
XO Jannine
http://fashionistArg.blogspot.com
No problem, Jannine!! I'm glad to answer your question ;)
DeleteYesss...let me know which shampoo you try out. I'm curious to know if you like them or not.
Ohh, let me know that name. I'm dying to try it out!!!!!
I love the Organix products. Their Moroccan oil conditioner in a tub is my go to. I have really thick, dry hair so I have to use a very good conditioner. I am lucky in that I can use cheap shampoos. I usually use one of the dandruff ones, and alternate out with a Garnier Fructis (sp?), or Tresemme conditioning shampoo.
ReplyDeleteI also use a lot of after products. I have shine gels, frizz serums, and pomades.
Yes, I love their products too. I'm a HUGE fan of their coconut oil as well. So amazing!!
DeleteI do use Tresemme shampoo for red heads. It's not bad, but not one of my top 5 picks ;)
I too use a variaty of shampoos! Just like Adam in the comments above I get dandruff and use head and shoulders, but thats not enough! It drys out my hair so much I have to use other shampoos as well! (yes I sometimes use two shampoos in one shower session!) DownUnders Natural's is the brand I like the best!
ReplyDeleteOhh, a man that can talk shampoos?? Us ladies like that!! I've never heard of that brand, but I'm off to google as we speak :)
DeleteWhich one of these has whale sperm? You know I got recent search for "a lady got pregnant from whale sperm" in my blog and who do you tinkk immediately came to my mind? Not Snooki. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to use organic shampoo before, now I use 3 out of 5 bottles of Garnier and depends on my humidity and hair condition. I get giggled at and mocked at by my hubby for that 5 bottles, I cant even imagine 30 bottles of shampoo.
My hair isnt completely straight but curly in the ends, so when I cut it too short that is when I have trouble because it curls up else it is good. I wish I had chinese hair - thick, razor cut sharp and straight hair my sister has that.
Whale sperm is a conditioner all in it's own. Actually the name of the whale sperm conditioner is "whale sperm" but in spanish. LOL It's such a greattt conditioner!!!!!!
Deletehahahaha You thought of me first? Eep!!
Aww, that totally went over my head. I'm such a guy. I've never felt this manly ever, and that's some achievement. Thank you. *skips merrily along*
ReplyDeleteLMAO Glad I could help ;)
Deletebut all that man talk and you're skipping? Just saying... hahaha
Jax... I got a sulfate free shampoo because of your advice and it has worked out great. My scalp and hair are in much better shape. It's called bioinfusion... It was the only sulfate free one that I could find, but it seems to be doing the job. Thanks to you, Jax I am no longer about stressing about strands of hair falling outta my head, and an itchy dry scalp.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jimmy, you win best comment award!!! So glad that you tried it out and loved it. Tell your scalp and hair follicles that I said you're welcome :) :)
DeleteOh my sister! I have found love. I am a beauty product whore! I will try just about anything!! I have been using the Wen haircare system for about six months and I can't imagine using anything else. It really does what the infomercials say. And it smells like the spa. Ahhhh. Now I wanna go wash my hair!
ReplyDeleteGirrrlll, you don't even know!!!! I love washing my hair. Actually I really, really love when other people wash my hair. It's just a great feeling!!! lol
DeleteSomeone else washing your hair, when done right, can be better than sex.
DeleteOmg, I have to agree with that one!!!! ;)
DeleteI totally agree, though most conditioners are fine for jerking off in the shower, sometimes taking a little time to rub a little around between your fingers in the grocery store to catch one with just the right amount of "slip" can make all the difference in the world. So do be choosy. For the guys out there, try to do this BEFORE you pee in the shower!
ReplyDeleteLove,
BamaTrav
Bama, I giggle and roll my eyes, but I've never gasped in shock at a comment before. You win. You got me to gasp, but now that the initial shock is over...I'm totally giggling again. LOL
DeleteNot even going to post a brand name? All the male readers will be disappointed!
My hair gets oily pretty quickly, although I have STICK STRAIGHT hair that's somewhat thick... I just have learned that I can't wash my hair EVERY day, but I also can't use the same shampoo two days in a row. :) To each their own.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's rough! Oily hair can be difficult. I would know, because mine does the same thing. Try putting a very little amount of baby powder on the roots. It really works!
DeleteCoconut milk shampoo? Sounds delightful and just like summer
ReplyDeleteYes, it is delightful!!
Deletei use coconut milk shampoo as well, it is great
ReplyDeleteReally? Yes, it's amazing!
Deletecoconut is my favorite scent, too...love it! Especially in the dead of winter...that scent can take you right to the beach and suntan oil!
ReplyDeleteRight?? Smells so yummy!!! I bought my mom a bottle of St. Ives (love their products!) body wash in coconut milk. She threw it out and said that it made her smell like the grocery store. hahaha Apparently not everyone agrees with us... lol
Deleteooh, I wish you ladies could try Tesori D'oriente shampoo, body lotion and shower gel line. They base their scents on ancient cultures, so you have ancient Egypt, Greece, China... scents.... total craziness... and extremely luxurious. I'm currently using Egypt like I'm a Pharaoh :)
Deletehttp://www.manufacturer.com/product/i1487561-Tesori+D%27oriente.html
DeleteOhh, Dez!!! I want it, I want it!!! This whole time I could have been smelling like Cleopatra? Holding out on me! lol
DeleteThanks for the link :) Can't wait to try it out.
my fave are AEGYPTUS and WHITE MUSK. Really intense scents and very seductive :)
DeleteSeductive and intense??? Ohh, I likeeeeee!!!
DeleteYou can totally do the fishtail! Promise.
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestions! Does argan oil work for you? It doesn't for me, but a lot of ppl like it.
Girl, I tried. That fish tail is soooo hard!!!! hahahaha
DeleteI use coconut oil, but I've never tried argan. I have to look for it.
I use Garnier Frutis shampoo (for color treated hair) and -brace yourself for the weirdness- horse conditioner. My hair gets very dry and weak, but the combination really works great on my hair.
ReplyDeleteEvery once in a while, when it gets really bad (after dying) or my scalp gets really dry, I'll comb mayo into it with a wide tooth comb (going layer by layer), pin it up, and put a shower cap on it to sleep in it. (I also put a towel on my pillow, just to be sure). The next day, I wash it twice (so I can stop smelling like a chicken sandwich lol), put in the horse conditioner the exact same way, and leave that over night too. My hair is soooo soft and smells amazing when I'm done. I did it about a month ago and my hair is still softer than before.
Believe it or not, I've heard of people using horse conditioner. It's supposed to be very good! Does it smell weird?
DeleteOhh, i love that you do that with the mayo!! I do the same thing but with egg white, olive oil, and avocado all mixed together. It does wonders for my dead ends!!
It works really well! I'm not sure if it's the shampoo I mix it with or just the conditioner itself, but my hair smells like I spent a crapload of money trying to buy all the expensive stuff to care for my hair. haha
DeleteI'll have to try that! Does that make your hair smell weird? haha
LOL Ohh, smelling like a crapload of money works for me ;) lol I'm going to have to look into it.
DeleteIt does for the night, but it washes out in the morning. Can't smell worse than mayo. LOL I also use placenta. That works real well!!
lol Right?? I'll have to give it a try soon. Are there certain proportions of that stuff to use, to make it mix right?
DeletePlacenta? Like... Well, placenta? That sounds so gross, ohmygosh.
I just use a whole avocado, 2 egg whites, and "enough" olive oil. Enough could mean whatever you want it to mean... lol
DeleteYes...like placenta!! I use Hask brand. It's amazing!!!!
glad to hear your tips! especially since you have such pretty hair in your new profile picture. I've always wanted to try that coconut shampoo but never have- now's the time!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Caitlin!! You need to try it. It's amazing!!
DeleteI have yuca powder.... id I made a paste and... LOL
ReplyDeleteYuca is nice to bake:)
I love coconut too, hey I saw here this shampoo this coconut milk! I hav eto buy when I see again! (I love all cosmetics, hair products)
Maybe I send Esperanza to NY she adore haor products and buy the best LOL
like you!
Personally I use anti frizz products frpm Pantene or others, because with time we have now (rain) my hair is a mess sometimes,
LOL The yucca powder made me laugh. hahahaha
DeleteYesss, you need to try the coconut milk!! It's amazing!! let me know if you like it. Ohh, send Esperanza! We can go shoe shopping together :)
My hair is fine as well. It falls flat easily and blows too much in the wind. I'm not good at sampling different shampoos. The ones you use sounds great. I just wonder if I can get them in the UK. I'll have to do some hunting.
ReplyDeleteI'm just about to publish your guest post. So excited :-)
Can't wait to read it!! I'm going to link up tomorrow :)
DeleteI have the same kind of hair but I never bothered to try a different shampoo. I don't even know the name of mine now but I guess I should start trying out yours.
ReplyDeleteYou use a shampoo every day but you don't know the name of it? For shame, Matt!! For shame!!! lol
DeleteI just use expired hand-sanitiser. Is that wrong?
ReplyDeleteThis is all levels of wrong. It's so wrong that I'm just not even going to tell you how wrong it is. LOL You're going to go bald from the alcohol!!!! hahahah
DeleteOk now I can't tell if you knew I was joking or not...
DeleteBut anyway, did you get my emails? The podcasts are up! You and Lady just need to write out your drafts and embed them in there and then we can schedule them to all go live at the same time!
DeleteI kid, I kid... lol
DeleteI got your e-mails. Thanks so much!! You're a podcast God!! I'm going to send you the drafts asap. We just have to cooridinate it now so that LIR will be here. I'll send you an e-mail explaining shortly.
me uses only Dove shampoo, because me bald head loves the 3/4 of hydrating cream in the shampoo :)
ReplyDeleteI like Dove Intense Therapy for the winter time. My hair straightener and the cold turns my hair to straw. This product is like gold!!!
DeleteI worship Dove :) I'm currently using their VISIBLE RESULTS multiple layer body lotion and its miraculous. Your skin feels freshly oiled literally for 24 hours!
DeleteOhh, I'm going to have to check that out ;)
DeleteI saw that coconut milk and almost tried it but didn't. I use Nexxus and love it!! Now I'll have to give that coconut one a try when it goes on sale.
ReplyDeleteI used to use Nexxus, but ever since they changed the design of their bottle, I feel like the product itself changed. It stopped working as wonderfully as it used too!!! lol
DeleteAnd yes, yes, yes to the coconut milk shampoo!!! It's godly!!
So glad to be a guy. I just use Head and Shoulders to get rid of dandruff.
ReplyDeleteAnd if I didn't get dandruff, I'd use anything and not care.
...so you're saying dandruff is the only reason why you care about your shampoo? Eep!! For shame!! lol
Deletehello dear!!! just wanted to say hi.. i know i missed alot from your posts.. really have to come back and catch up :)
ReplyDeleteabout this post.. i cannot stick in one brand i always have to change.. i have very long hair and really hard to find the best one,. but right now i'm using this herbal shampoo :)
