Have you ever spilled something in college and asked for a paper towel?
Well, if they want me to sit semi-still they should expect me to bring a cup of coffee!!!
The paper towel they supply you with is comparable to a thin sheet of cardboard.
Wiping up your mess with a sheet of loose leaf paper would have the same useless effect.
Paper towels are just one of those things that you can't be cheap with.
Give me the quicker picker upper or bust!!!
This got me thinking.
You all know what's coming here...
What are the things that you should never, ever buy the cheap way out of unless completely necessary.
1. Shampoo
You all know how I love my shampoo. There are 28 bottles in my shower as we speak...
The wrong shampoo could mean dry, limp, lifeless hair! Don't skimp out when it comes to shampoo. If you can spare the dough, put down the bottle of Suave and splurge on Coconut Milk!
2. Band-Aids
Ever buy a cheap band-aid? Those damn things don't stick for crap!!! If they do stick, then they don't come off. Talk about a fickle pharmacy good. Spare the extra buck for these!
Took me 2 years to fall in love with the perfect bandage brand and style!!
3. Olive Oil
Cheap olive oil is the worst! This is your kitchen's best friend. It could make anything taste delicious. Olive oil should be poured on everything from salads to fresh bread. Yum!
I even bought my Papa imported Olive Oil as a Christmas gift last year. It's gold, I swear!!
4. Babysitter
You paid the random girl at the end of your block 3 bucks to watch your son for an hour while you ran to the store. No wonder you came home to him drinking soda from a bottle!
For the love of God, don't be cheap when it comes to decent child care!!
5. Mozzarella
Cheese is one of those foods that you either need to go all out or completely skip.
Cheap mozzarella shouldn't even exist. In fact, it should only be sold fresh! Yum!
Alright, so that's the Italian in me again.. Excuse me while I pour Olive Oil on my mozzarella ;)
6. Mechanics
Typically you want to pay up for decent service jobs! There is nothing worse than an unqualified mechanic working on your car. It will cost you more in the long run.
The last time I opted for the cheaper body shop, TheLoveBug was rocking a different color back bumper!
7. Foundation
Ladies, have you ever changed up your foundation? Keep buying the good stuff you always do!
Well, unless you like to have a face full of pimples...
8. Brother's Birthday Gift
Don't skimp out when it comes to your Brother's birthday. You'll never hear the end of it. Ever.
What? I thought that batteries was a great birthday gift...
9. Garbage Bags
You don't want to be known as the person with a stinky home. You also don't want to pick up the trash to have it all fall out of the bottom. You want a reliable, strong bag that holds in odors!
Hefty Force Flex with Febreeze is perfecto!
10. Toilet Paper
If you give an extra buck for anything, make it be your toilet paper. No one wants leftover pieces of paper in places it don't belong! No one wants to bleed from wiping with cardboard either. Find a happy medium.
Sorry to be a little graphic there, but we don't mess around when it comes to toilet paper...
What are the things you could never be cheap about?
The cat is going to hassle you about the shampoo again Jax! You're completely right about the cheese. It's a crime against humanity that cheap cheese even exists. I was shocked when I came to the States for the first time and ate cheese that was mass produced and packaged before being aged.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to teach the Hubby the lesson on trash bags and toilet paper but he won't listen to me. Another thing you can't buy cheap is laundry detergent. The Hubby can't get the hang of that one either.
and cheap toothbrushes and pastes :)
DeleteThe cat's just jealous of all my shampoos, Anne! Don't you know? He wishes he had fur that was treated half as well as my hair!! hahahaha
DeleteOh, the cheese is a crime against humanity!! Cheese is suppose to have difference textures and a recongizeable flavor!! The prepackaged cheese tastes the same and feels like plastic. Bleh!!
LOL @ trying to teach the hubby. What if you cut holes in the bottoms of the cheap bags. After cleaning that up a few times, maybe he's splurge for the trash bags with built in Febreeze!!! lol
Agreed Dez! You don't want to accidently brush your gums away!! ;)
DeleteThat's alright, the cat is going to be to distracted eating the toilet paper lol =P
DeleteYeah cheap tooth brushes are nasty too. Can the cat help it if he has such high class taste in toilet paper? The good stuff can roll for miles, the crappy stuff just breaks up and won't go anywhere.
Deleteand it leaves bits and pieces and flakes of paper on your bum :))) or willy :)
Deletehahaha what a great list! i´d love you to share some of the best shampoos you own! i´m a zero when it comes to hair... and given we both have fine hair, maybe the ones you use could do something for my mane... :)
ReplyDeletei couldn´t agree more when it comes to foundation! a porcelain, glowy and happy face is one that has some bucks on it! LOL stay away from the nasty cheap products.
oh and while we´re on the beauty section, stay away from cheap perfumes! the only allowed ones are the Victorias Secret body mists... but other than that, some cheap dupe perfumes can get you smelling like a stinky old lady!
now i want some fresh baked bread with some olive oil and mozzarella, yummm!
XO jannine
http://fashionistArg.blogspot.it
Glad you like the list! Girl, I can make a whole shampoo post in your honor. Watch out for that post. I'll make it specifically for our hair type. Thin hair can be a pain in the butt!!!
DeleteVictoria Secret's Love Spell is one of my FAVORITE scents!!! That and Fergie's perfume Outspoken. Love those!
yayy for the shampoo list! :) i´ll be alert!!
Deletei love "coconut passion" and a very summery scent called "tropic breeze" makes you smell like a delicious fruity cocktail! HAHA!i´m in love with DKNY´s classic perfume AND Chanel Chance!
XO!
Ohh, I loveeee Coconut scented stuff. I have to check that one out!!! :)
DeleteWine! JK. I love cheap wine.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the wine ;) I can't taste the difference!! But the headache...yep I could feel that difference. lol
DeleteYou can't be cheap with office chairs, hotel rooms, hot dogs, soda, and vibrators.
ReplyDeleteNoted Barfly! Thanks for your input ;) lol
DeleteNumber 10 was totally the first on my list!
ReplyDeleteGood toilet paper is sooo important!!
DeleteCondoms!
ReplyDeleteYes, that too...lol
DeleteAh what nice post dear Jax lol
ReplyDeletein order
I use foundantion a lot of years, always I buy the best i can love clinic and Estee lauder (fantastic) but now we have amazing in loreal and Fit of Maybelline was a great surprise!
Shampoo and conditioner totally agree and your twin the same she alwlays buy the best lol!
Toilet paper I hate the bad paper and I use to clean my eyes so...
(oh the cat will happy reading all this)
Of course Im agree with moxarella and olive oil!!!
Xxxxc
Im totally agree with Janine in parfum love the best and if i cant buy I dont use, love parfums. Of Donna Karam the green apple an Versace. And beauty of Estee Lauder is my classic lol
DeleteI use Clinic stay true foundation. It's the only thing that doesn't leave me greasy and a pimply mess! For powder, I rock Neutrogena bronzer. It's hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic. My skin loves that ;)
DeleteOh, the mozarella and olive oil was a gift from the heavens!! Soooo yummy :) :) :)
I totally agree with you on the perfume! So important to get a good perfume!
My favorite is clinic Im allergic too:) and neutrogena is amazing to bronzer but I use to clean my face too"
DeleteI love St. Ives as a facial cleanser! Their products are amazing as well :)
DeleteThis is a great list! I agree that sometimes you get what you pay for...
ReplyDeleteAgreed and thanks!!
Deletehaha, love the way you write. so witty and i can relate. i saw a show on TLC about this woman who was cheap w toilet paper... she didn't want to spend the money, so she had her whole family use cut-up fabric... and then she would wash it. the "washed" cloths would be put back in a basket in the bathroom, but you can see stains on them... yuk! that is my number one thing i can't be cheap with... toilet paper. :) hope you had a nice wknd, and have a great week!
ReplyDeletexoxo
jasmine
AdamAlexMommy
Omg, ew, ew, ew!!!!! Girl, you made me GAG!!! There were stains on the clothes??? Wasn't this person MORTIFIED?! I would never, ever put that on TV. Bleh!!!!!! Maybe I should send her my list and highlight #10 ;) hahahaha
DeleteHave a great week too!!
I fully agree on toilet paper, my bum loves the expensive one :) scented one :)
ReplyDeleteThe thing I never go cheap on is tea. I just can't drink cheap tea.
Dez i agree with tea I cant drink cheap tea:(
DeleteMy grand dad was english ha! Maybe is genetic lol
Jax you are with the japaneses? Ok talk us later lol
DeleteI'm with both of you on the tea! Especially my green tea :) I like to indulge in the maximum # of antioxidents that little bag can give me. Along with that, I can't put cheap honey in it! I only like the brands Golden Blossom or the local honey called Stiles Apiaries.
DeleteYes, I'm surrounded by the Japanese, but I'm back ;) hahahaha
The honey have to be the best too, I love this lovely color of honey LOL
Deleteyep, good honey is also of utter importance, but I never buy industrial ones, but the one I take from my own private honey maker :)There's a man who has his beehives in my green market and he makes natural honey. Usually from acacia.
DeleteYes, it's all about the honey too ;)
DeleteOhh, you have a man who has beehives???? I'm so jealous!!!! It's probably AMAZING!!!
Totally agree with the TP. One thing that sucks is having your hand go through cheap paper. :/
ReplyDeleteEveryone seems to agree with the cheap paper. Oh my! You're hand goes through the paper? That calls from some handwashing in bleach ;) hahahaha
DeleteLOL the cat is so dissapointed in you now. You only have 28 bottles? That is not even. Where is the 30 you go on about? You better get on that right quick...hahahaha
ReplyDeleteOh yes the TP I can fully agree, making ones butt raw or having your finger pop through is the worst thing ever.
Never knew there were garbage bags with febreeze in them though. That would be a good thing, may have to give them a look. I always buy strong ones though. The paper towel I agree too, that cheap stuff sucks.
One thing I hate is cheap packing tape. I HATE it! They always get that cheap kind at work and it comes off and sticks together and won't pull apart, I go through more of that than needed because it sucks.
Another is vets, never use a cheap vet because it will cost you waaaaay more in the long wrong, been there, never again.
The cat is disappointed in my lack of shampoos? Bottles finish and I didn't get to replacing the winter bottles yet!!!
DeleteLOL The finger popping skeeves me! Bleh, gag, barf!!!!!
Garbage bags w/ Febreeze is the crap!! You have to get it. Just don't let people catch you smelling the fresh scent of your garbage. hahahahahaha
Cheap packing tape? I so get that one!!! Add it to the list!! hahahaha
I love this post. Funny and lot of message and agree.
ReplyDeleteShampoo, come on if you 28 bottles have whale sperm, follow Snooky and fill it with seawater. Or try sperm bank :)
I would love to add cheap bras though. Many ladies think that it is underwear and maynt care about much, but they dont even try to think how much damage it can do.
And cheap lipstick and yeah cheap perfumes.
For men, cheap haircuts, please use a razor instead and shave your head.
You love it? Oh, thank you!!!!
DeleteA sperm bank? A whale sperm bank maybe... hahahahahaha
Cheap bras are awful!! Gilly Hix is the best! ;)
I agree with you on shampoo!! I found one that is expensive and then I switched and got the cheap-o brand....never again!! I'm back to my nice, expensive shampoo.
ReplyDeleteSame thing with toilet paper. I love my very specific, gentle TP.
I will buy lots of generic stuff at the store but one thing that will never, ever be generic - SODA. NEVER!! It has to be Coca Cola - baby!!
Coca Cola, I knew you had bad taste. Blah!
DeleteBleh...I hate soda!! But...Peach Snapple? Yes, please!!!!!
DeleteThe shampoo is a definite. I don't care what people say...It's crucial!!!
LOVE your list and so true. I can't buy cheap Q-Tips or aluminum foil. Both of those items have to be name brand. Ever try sticking a hard stick in your ear with a teeny tiny bit of cotton on the end instead of a nice cushy cotton swab? OUCH!!!! And cheap aluminum foil tears and rips before you can even cover your leftovers. Totally not even worth the hassle.
ReplyDeleteI don't use qtips b/c my doctor told me they were evil, but I can totally imagine that being a little uncomfortable!!!! lol
Deletehaha yea I agree with them all, and toothbrush! you need those soft bristle ones with different length bristles!! I cheaped out on shampoo when i was younger and i will never do that again!
ReplyDeleteOhh, the toothbrush one is so true!! Yes, cheap shampoo kills my hair!
DeleteNice list! I'm SO with you on the Paper Towels- I feel like that is one of the MAJOR things that totally changes with price.
ReplyDeleteI believe buying expensive (or at least not scrimping): Hair appliances (I mean they heat up to 400 degrees...), mascara (with one exception as Loreal has a really, really good one that should cost more), CHEESE (yes, yes and YES! There is NO point in buying cheap cheese, gross), Color-care conditioner, software (that is, buy software, do not download it free unless you are SURE it will not infect your comp with viruses), Coffee (cheap coffee is so yuck. As a Pacific NW'er, I'm obligated to buy expensive coffee), eyeshadow and finally... Goo-Gone because I'm obsessed with it for everything and cheap versions of it just don't work!
Oh cheap paper towels are useless!!! I hate it!!!!
DeleteI totally agree with all that you listed. Coffee is so important too! I didn't even think of that one considering I always rock my favorite coffee brands ;)
Coffee and peanut butter!
ReplyDeleteYum and Yumm!!!
DeleteI'm with you on the olive oil, mozzarella (but I'd extend that to all cheeses), and toilet paper.
ReplyDeleteI disagree on the shampoo. Every hairdresser that is honest will tell you the expensive stuff is a waste of money. You just find one with ingredients you like, and you can always find a cheap version. Branding and product sales are how salons make their money. When they push the pricey stuff on you, they're just being salespeople. I have a lot of hairdresser friends. :)
Now after product is a different story. Pomades, shine glosses, and most of that stuff really does differ based on price.
I have very thin, damaged hair. I've used cheaper shampoos and felt the difference! My hair is so sensitive that even some expensive shampoos don't work for me. I have shampoo down to a science LOL Girls with thicker hair don't have this problem ;)
DeleteThe only after product I use is coconut oil. After product weighs my hair down and certain ones break it. It's a vicious cycle. LOL
But I'm so with you on the olive oil ;)
I agree with all of these! But add in medical treatment! Don't go to the vet if your a human!
ReplyDeleteLMAO Yes, please avoid the vet. hahahaha
DeleteThis was an awesome post! I really enjoyed it, and as so many others have already said, your writing style is unique, witty, and fresh! Love it!!! Anyway, I'm going to add cereal to the list. We bought off-brand cheerios last weekend, and neither my three year old, nor my one year old will touch the stuff! Also, diapers ... use your imagination on that one!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! That really does mean a lot to me!!
DeleteGood cereal is important! I've never had off-brand cheerios but I can so see a cardboard taste coming from that. Oh, diapers?? ew!! lol
LMFAOOOO Jax! Toilet tissue, paper towels, cheese, milk, ice cream for me. HAHAHA Love this post.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.averysweetblog.com/
Ohh ben & jerrys or bust!!!! :)
DeleteI definitely agree about the shampoo. For the longest time I was using V05 which is super cheap, and my hair and scalp surely paid the price. With the garbage bags I like the ones with the drawstrings you can pull close. I am a busy man. I don't have time to tie together garbage bags. And well "no comment" on the toilet paper.
ReplyDeleteLOL Oh, V05 is awful!! Invest in sulfate free so you don't go bald ;) You're scalp will thank you!!!
DeleteNo comment? Thanks for sparing us ;) hahahaha
What is a sulfate free one you can recommend?
DeleteMy favorite sulfate free is Coconut Milk by Organix. I've recommended it to men before who loved it! Another great brand is Shea Moisture, but that's more feminine. L'Oreal recent let out a line of sulfate free shampoos that my mom and brother love! I've never tried it, but I've heard it was great :)
Deletei agree with the toilet paper. olive oil and shampoo downgrades i am constantly using. in fact, i use whatever brand of shampoo my friends happen to have in the shower, and they use whatever happens to be donated to them. good caramel is not a necessity at all, but there is something about good quality caramel i crave. of course, that is a different question: what indulgences are worth the extra price. this post is which regular items should you not buy on the cheap. you shouldn't buy tea on the cheap, as i've learned. taste and nutrients are missed. i would also add coffee, but i drink cheap coffee all the time.
ReplyDeleteYou made some great points! I'm not a caramel fan, but I totally get where you are coming from with that! Certain things just taste better with more expensive ingredients ;)
Deletei disagree with the shampoo! as long as it's sulfate-free, you'll be fineeee. but yes, olive oil...has to be the good stuff. it's an italian thing. ppl just don't understand! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, it's deff an Italian thing. Bad olive oil could ruin a whole meal! hahaha
Deletebatteries. Cheap dollar store batteries won't even turn on my camera for 2 seconds.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great one!!!! Didn't think of it but sooo true!
DeleteHaha, I hate to admit it, but these are all pretty true...
ReplyDeleteTea and coffee, never buy supermarket own brand crap. I only get the gourmet shit.
ReplyDeleteKetchup! My parents once got something other than Heinz and I almost vomited!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree on mozzarella and foundation! Hehe btw i love cheese!
