A few weeks back, I was in the office building restroom washing my hands when a coworker approached me for some chit chat. I politely smiled and listened to my coworker's story.
For the record, this coworker is 78 years old and the sweetest, quietest woman I ever met!
"Jax, I've had a rough week. My girlfriend told me to check out Home Depot for some rough, older men who know how to work a chain saw. I figured what the hell and hopped in the car. I've gone every night this week and all I have to show for it is a pile of screws, pun intended!"
This coworker just went from the sweet, old lady who works with a magnifying glass to a woman on a mission!
You had to be there to completely grasp the naughtiness in her words. Her eyes were shining!
I'm no stranger to older women finding a beau.
My Aunt Tootsie is 98 years old and seeing a "young boy" at the ripe age of 72.
You know you had a blessed life when you call a 72 year old man a "young boy".
Like many of life's adventures, this left me thinking.
Is there ever a point in life when an individual becomes too old to date?
Jax says absolutely not! No matter how old a person is, they still can feel the ping of loneliness. Whether they are seriously going out there to hunt for beefcake or just looking for companionship, men and women of all ages should be "dating".
Unless, of course, they are going to participate in a Facebook relationship with status wars. This actually happened to a couple in their 80s that I know. I swear, it's true!
How old do you think is too old to go on dates?
I don't think there is such a thing as being too old. The need for love and companionship doesn't turn itself off at any age. As long as we take breath we are human.

DeleteNot everyone feels this way though. I asked my grandmother and she still believes in wearing only dark colors and morning her husbands death. She wouldn't date again. But, she also said that a man is different. A man couldn't be alone.

DeleteIt's really hard ... to say. I think as long as women out there are lost, I'll be there to point north. Even when I'm an old man, I'll rise to the occasion every time I see a sexy lady. If she doesn't know how to have a good time, I'll just tell her to do whatever pops up first. Sure I'll be a bit stiff but after she loosens me up we'll have a good time. After its all said and done we'll lay out by the stars and she will get to know the softer side of me.

Old people here don't seem to get lonely - but they live in extended family households where there are always people about... also, they tend to turn more towards God as they age and are not very interested in worldly life. Yes, it very much depends on culture.
I totally agree with that as well! I asked my grandmother about this as well. She thinks once your life partner passes, then that's the end of it. You live the rest of your life dedicated to your children and to God. She would even take it as far as only wearing dark clothing in honor of the love she lost. It's totally dependent on the person.

DeleteNope, I don't think there is an age limit either, if you want to date and have some fun go for it. You never know what kind of relationship could come about. I'm not sure at such an age one can ever find a relationship they had, if they ever had one, earlier on in life though, but for fun and companionship one should never stop dating until they are dead.

If you ever watch tv older people are always depicted as cartoonish anyway, rather than vital and interesting.You almost never see a movie character these days as anyone under thirty, its a shame. Talking about love at any age, i read about this guy in his fifties who bought some Viagra. He swallowed it too quickly though and got a stiff neck...

DeleteWhat a truly sweet post! Age is relative. To kids of 10, someone of 20 is old. To someone 25, a 50-year-old is ancient. To that 50-year-old, someone of 75 is really old...and it just keeps going.

Deletei think as humans we always crave loving someone and feeling loved. i don´t think that ever leaves our bodies or soul, no matter how old we get... i think that there are times when dating someone much older than you can be a problem because there are certain stages in life that you need to take in with that level of maturity...and maybe seeing someone older can force you to skip certain steps in order to be compatible with them. and i think that´s not good. but once you´re old and you´ve lived long enough, i guess it doesn´t seem like a big deal :)
